Tour Overview

We are delighted to repeat one of our most popular wildlife photo tours with our small group Maasai Mara Wildlife Photo Safari. Visiting the game rich and world famous Maasai Mara in Kenya, one of Africa’s most famous reserves and home to a year round abundance of predators. Where the Mara River provides the setting for the annual wildebeest and zebra migration and a reserve made famous by the BBC’s ‘Big Cat Diary’ and numerous other wildlife documentaries. This tour will run with a minimum of 4 and max of 8 people and is hosted by Wildlife photographers Andy & Sarah Skinner*

The area provides copious photographic opportunities and almost guaranteed sightings of Lion, Cheetah and is also a great place to see Leopard. As well as a focus on the ‘Big cats’ we will also have plenty of time to photograph a rich diversity of other game, including elephant, buffalo, hippo and many antelope and bird species. Generally we take breakfast in the bush at a lovely location each day either perched on a beautiful hilltop of alongside the river with the hippos. returning to camp for lunch for time to rest before we once again return to the plains for afternoon game drives.

This wildlife photo tour will be characterised by maximising time in the field for wildlife game viewing and photography. You do not have to be a serious photographer to join this tour. All we ask is your willingness for flexibility and patience to stay out in the field for long periods in order to maximise wildlife viewing opportunities, which in turn pays dividends. Andy & Sarah will of course be on hand to provide plenty of photographic tuition during drives and also back at camp.

Daily Itinerary

June 23rd/Day 1:  You are met from your international flight arriving into Nairobi’s international airport and transferred to the lovely EKA Hotel (or Ole Sereni hotel). A 4* star rated contemporary, well-appointed and secure hotel, and very conveniently located only 15-20 minutes from the airport. Here you will overnight on a room only basis. Overnight: EKA Hotel or Ole Sereni Hotel (room only basis)

June 24th/Day 2:  This morning you will take an early morning road transfer to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport, approximately a 45-minute drive (group transfer). From here you will take an exciting 50-minute bush flight into the heart of the Maasai Mara (Note: strict 23kg luggage limit, including hand luggage – this includes your 8kg free extra allowance). With fabulous aerial views of the plains and game below as you arrive. On arrival you will take a short 5-minute transfer to Mara Intrepids camp, where a much-needed cool drink welcomes you. Here you will stay for 6 nights on a full board basis. After a briefing of the camp’s facilities we take lunch as a group during which you can get to know your fellow travellers and for your hosts to introduce the week ahead. After lunch you will have a little time to settle into your rooms, unpack and freshen up. We will meet at around 3pm for tea & coffee, and if you have room left after lunch try the freshly cooked pancakes. We then depart on our first afternoon game drive on the Maasai Mara Wildlife Photo Safari, returning as the sun sets. There will be plenty of time for showers after your drive before we meet for a sumptuous dinner. Overnight: Mara Intrepids Camp, Maasai Mara, Full Board)

June 25th -29th/Days 3-7:  Enjoy 5 full days of morning & afternoon game drives. A normal day will involve an early morning wake up call, including tea or coffee and cookies before we head out early for our first morning drive. Our starts are indeed very early, however by far the best time to catch predators, such as lion and leopard at their most active. We will be usually be out all morning, taking breakfast in the bush and returning to camp in time for lunch.
After lunch you will have usually have time for a quick snooze, a dip in the pool or simply relax by the river with a book, before we meet again at around 3-3:15pm for tea & cakes before our afternoon game drive. After time for showers we join as a group for dinner in the restaurant. Overnight: Mara Intrepids Camp, Maasai Mara, Full Board)

June 30th/Day 8: Sadly this is the morning of our last drive on our Maasai Mara wildlife photo safari where we will spend the last few hours on the African plains. We will return to camp giving you time to quickly shower and freshen up before your bags are collected from your rooms. After checking out there will be time for lunch at camp before you then take a transfer to the airstrip and take the 50-minute afternoon return flight back to Nairobi. You are then collected and taken to Nairobi’s international airport via either the Ole Sereni Hotel or Eka Hotel where there will be time to take a bite to eat in the hotel’s cafe or pool bar (cost not included) and relax in comfortable surroundings before your onward transfer a couple of hours later to the airport for your flight home (international flight cost not included) Breakfast & lunch included

Game viewing vehicles

We use game vehicles with large roof openings and open sides that are very well suited to photography. In each vehicle we limit the number of guests to a maximum of 4 per car across that generally have three full rows (7 seats) in the back and thus providing plenty of space for each client. The game vehicles are also supplied with  a cool box/fridge.
