After the great breakfast in our hotel in Arusha, we do drive to Tarangire national park. Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park is second only to Ngorongoro Conservation area in terms of concentrations of wildlife. The Park lies to the south of the large open grasslands of southern Maasailand and is named after the Tarangire River, which provides permanent water for wildlife in the Park. It is an easy drive by good tarmac road from Arusha, passing open plains and great views of Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru along the way.. Herds of migratory wildebeest, gazelle, zebra and buffalo gather along the marshy shores of Lake Natron. These pools are shared by flocks of birds: green wood hoopoes, fisher lovebirds, tallis herons, white bellied go-away birds and giant kingfishers. Resident lions, giraffes, elephants, are common at Tarangire national park. Accommodation at Tarangire safari Lodge (FB)
Enjoy the early morning drive in Tarangire National park. After breakfast, you travel to karatu-the base from which to visit the Lake manyara National park. Enroute you pass mto wa mbu, a lively, tropical village. It is said to be the only place in Tanzania where representatives of 120 Tanzania Tribes lives in harmony together. Lake manyara is a shallow soda lake, set at the base of the Western rift valley Escarpment. The northwestern Lake shore and its Hinterland are protected in a scenic national park. Manyara is one of the Tanzania`s smallest park, yet boosting a very diverse flora and fauna-savannah, acacia woodlands, rocks, grassy, floodplains and tropical rainforest. An exciting aspect of Lake Manyara is the opportunity to stretch your legs. The park offers suburb birding and guided walking safaris along the shore to the hot springs and flamingo lookout point. Accommodation at Kudu Lodge.
If you’re looking for something unique and different, Lake Eyasi is recommended off-the -beated track deviation. It is a cultural highlight because of the unique opportunity to hunt with Hadzabe tribe. Lake Eyasi is a shallow soda lake at the remote southern border of the Ngorongoro conservation Area. From Manyara it’s a 30 minutes smooth drive to karatu town, from where you continue off road for some 2 hours on the rough, rock roads, so drive slowly and carefully. The lake Eyasi cultural Tourism program regulates tourism in the area. You find the office at Mangola on the main road. You need to stop here to pay the mandatory entrances fees and it is also where you arrange a guide for your hunting experiences with the Hadzabe tribe or any other cultural activities that you like to do. After breakfast at our Lodge, we head towards the Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Accommodation at Serengeti Heritage tented camp or similar.(FB)
Day 7 is dedicated to a full day game drive along Northern Serengeti plains- home to elusive lions, leopards, elephants, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, wild dog, gazelles, and crocodiles among others. The Serengeti is famed for its incredible wildlife, stunning views and the annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras. In this frenzied bout of territorial conquests and mating, witness an actual survival of the fittest as these animals plunge through crocodile-infested waters. The wildebeest will birth more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000 km (600 mile) pilgrimage begins again. Accommodation at Serengeti Heritage tented camp or similar(FB).
We view game as we drive southeast up into the magnificent Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Stop over at The Olduvai Gorge with picnic lunch en route. We spend the night at the Rhino Lodge at the crater rim. The Olduvai Gorge cuts through rock beds layered in time sequence from 2 million years ago to the present and it is here where humanoid bones have been found dating back to over 1.75 million years including a direct ancestor of modern man. Fossil foot prints (over three million years old) have also been found here and are the most ancient footprints yet discovered. There is an excellent site museum where you can explore the diggings with a guide and it is also a great place to view birds such as the purple grenadier, red and yellow barbet, speckle fronted weaver and slaty colored boubou.
